Commit Porto 2016 // FEUP

On 2 July, FEUP received what was the 2nd edition of “Commit Porto”.

The conference is organized by AlumniEI-FEUP (Computer Engineering association of former students of FEUP) and seeks to harness synergies between different technology areas, in the auditorium of Engineering University of Porto.

Maria João Miranda and Catarina Carvalho (organization) shared with us that the ultimate goal of Commit Porto is  to ” get together the maximum number of people with an interest and/or training in different technological areas in a single space”. Which space that this year became small to receive so many participants. In the early morning 350 people were already registered, the number corresponding to the total of participants in last year’s event.

The speakers are working professionals in many technological areas, providing the sharing of different experiences and challenges. “We try to bring to the Commit Porto different topics so people who do not work specifically in an area can be able to learn something new. People often end up reviewing problems that the guests and other companies have had”. The conference also shows up as a good opportunity for the participants to exhibit certain problems and find the respective solution.

There were several guests who contributed to the sharing of knowledge of this issue, including Pedro Pacheco (Software Engineer, Spotify), Pedro Rodrigues (R & D Manager, cloudware), Francisco Ferreira (Software Engineer, Palantir), André Duarte (Senior Frontend Developer , Blip), Lino Silva (Senior Engineer, Farfetch), João Cravo (Software Engineer, Mindera), F. Almada Lobo (CEO, Critical Manufacturing), Olga Maksin (Software Engineer, Facebook), John Azevedo (Software Engineer, ShiftForward) , Rastislav Vasko (Android Developer, Doist) and Fábio Oliveira (iOS engineer, GetYourGuide).

The initiative is free and provides the entire community a great exchange of experience among students, teachers, businesses and professionals that face challenges with software development in their daily lives. “It’s an excellent opportunity to share knowledge and promote Porto as a dynamic city for technology-based companies”.

The next edition of Commit Porto will be in 2017.
