From September to November, Porto will host over 20 tech-related events, strengthening its position as an epicenter of innovation and entrepreneurship in Portugal.
1st edition
After the success of the 2023 edition, which featured three weeks of activities, this year’s edition will be even more ambitious, extending over three months – from September to November – with the participation of more organizations and a schedule packed with workshops, conferences, and hackathons.
The first edition was a significant milestone for the city, attracting over four thousand participants and establishing Porto as a key hub in the tech sector. Over three weeks, the city hosted more than 10 events, including NDC Porto, Porto Tech Hub Conference, Data Makers Fest, and the Portuguese Women in Tech AI Hackathon.
2nd edition
Porto has kicked off another edition of Porto Tech, an initiative promoted by the Municipality of Porto aimed at solidifying the city as one of Portugal’s leading tech hubs.
This year, Porto Tech promises to be even bigger, reflecting the continuous growth and strength of the city’s entrepreneurship ecosystem. The initiative brings together local and international players from the fields of Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Deeptech, and Startups, offering a unique platform for networking and skill development.
According to the Municipality, Porto Tech is a celebration of the vibrant tech and entrepreneurial communities that bring the city to life. For Ricardo Valente, City Councillor for Economy, Employment, and Entrepreneurship,
“Porto is a natural meeting point for these innovative minds, and through this initiative, we reinforce our commitment to positioning the city as a national and international reference tech hub. We want Porto to remain a central stage for the development of ideas, projects, and partnerships that drive the city’s economy.”
The 2024 edition officially kicked off on September 19 with a Porto Tech meetup in partnership with DeHouse Trindade, dedicated to the theme of Web3. In the following months, two more meetups are scheduled for October and November, in partnership with Portuguese Women in Tech (PWIT) and Founders Founders, respectively. These events will be co-organized by ScaleUp Porto.

Porto’s Entrepreneurial Ecosystem
Currently, Porto is home to over 900 startups and scaleups, employing more than 50,000 people, with a focus on key areas such as enterprise software, healthcare, and fintech. This ecosystem is supported by a robust infrastructure, comprising over 80 higher education and R&D institutions, such as the University of Porto, INESC-TEC, and INEGI, along with 50 active local tech communities and more than 12,500 researchers, reinforcing Porto as the Portuguese region with the highest number of patents and leadership in innovation.
