The 1st edition of Indie Workers took place from October 18th to 20th at the Correios Palace in Porto. The event, supported by the ScaleUp Porto brought together hundreds of independent creative workers in the same space.
The Indie Workers community, which brings together independent workers, freelancers and entrepreneurs from all areas, focusing on the creative industries, gathered in Porto for the 1st edition of Indie Workers Bootcamp.
The initiative, which was strongly supported by CRU Cowork and the ScaleUp Porto Call for Activities 2019, brought together portuguese and foreign guests, in a total of 30 speakers, related to painting, sculpture, cinema, photography, marketing, advertising, architecture, design, illustration, game software and even journalism, to identify and debate, for three days, the main difficulties in the sector.
The program of the event included theoretical and expository moments, not forgetting the practical activities such as workshops, flash classes and round tables.
However, the bootcamp has not escaped the difficulties and has also addressed the myths of creative entrepreneurship, the associated financial instability, the challenges of personal branding, the online marketplace and the need for micro planning for a micro business.
Cowork spaces were also identified in the country and around the world and there was still time to address other topics of interest to freelancers and solopreneurs, such as project and client management, legality, taxation and business bureaucracy or how to build a portfolio.
