The Growth Champions – Making SMEs In The North Of Portugal Grow

ScaleUp Porto stands for Growth and The Growth Champions initiative couldn’t be more in sync with this subject. This action, designed in partnership with the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE), focuses on training executives and managers, fostering companies’ growth.

The goal? Improve management skills of small and medium-sized fast growing companies in the Region, by training their executives and founders, offering tools to increase management and organizational knowledge.

How is it different? This is not an acceleration program for startups, it’s 100% dedicated to scaleups, focusing on the needs faced by companies with potential to scale globally. But this isn’t only for technological companies, but also for industrial and family companies with potential to grow.

“This initiative is part of the ScaleUp Porto strategy, which aims to invest in a more competitive paradigm to the regional economy and to support local technological startups with the potential to scale internationally.” – Filipe Araújo, Councilor for Innovation and Environment.

It all started in June with a workshop by Verne Harnish, author of the books “ScaleUp” and “Mastering the Rockefeller Habits”. Twenty companies participated, 8 of them from more traditional industries.

What’s next? More training oportunitie will happen from October 2017 to February 2018, in fields such as marketing, sales, operations or finances/investment. Other ations will be carried out. For instance, participation in international impactful events will be supported, starting with the Web Summit already in November.
