“This is not just a place it’s a district”
District – Offices and Lifestyle it’s the most recent coworking space in Porto. Well, actually, this place aims to be more than a coworking space. As the name says, the place combines business and leisure. With a central location, District is placed in a historic building, built in the 19th century, has 6000m2 divided in five thematic floors and it’s surrounded with a great public transport network.
Opened about 3 months ago, the space is occupied by more than 300 entrepreneurs from 50 companies and has already a long waiting list. The investment exceeded 3.6 million euros, of which 1.6 million relate to the acquisition of the building, property of the Portuguese State.
According to André Ferreira, spokesman for the Endutex Group, the company responsible for the rehabilitation work: “We were surprised by the interest that the District has aroused in the city. The space reservations began even before the beginning of the works.”
At this moment, District Offices and Lifestyle is full of companies from many different areas of activity. Since technological areas, to creative industries, as well communication and marketing agencies, architecture offices and fashion and jewelry design. The place exists like a real district where ideas and people are in constant movement, where everyone can enjoy and participate.
In the downtown’s heart, District has, in addition to offices, common areas, stores and restaurants areas. Spaces like meeting rooms, amphitheater or copy center are some examples of spaces that can be used by external entities, from €10 per hour, for instance.
For Marta Ramos, District’s Marketing Manager, the mission is clear: “District aims to put creativity at the service of business, betting on a format of community. With an informal environment, the goal is to promote the conviviality of talent creating new opportunities and synergies, both for work and leisure.”
The space seems to reflect some of the key points of the ScaleUp Porto’s strategy, betting on an environment that allows the sharing of experiences and synergies, involving not only entrepreneurs, but also merging with the city’s community. With a waiting list made up of about 40 companies, District is another living proof that Porto’s entrepreneurial community is constantly growing.
The goals for 2017 are the affirmation of the space as a reference of business centers in the city, positioning it as the ideal venue for corporate events and transforming restaurants area in meeting point in the city.
